For the fifth year in a row, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) and France Télévisions, in coordination with TDF and Eutelsat, will broadcast the French Open semi-finals as well as the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles finals, in ultra-high-definition (4K).
The matches will be broadcast live between 8 and 11 June on two 24-hour channels aired by France Télévisions. These two channels will be broadcast in ultra-high-definition, and one will also use high-dynamic-range (HDR) technology. HDR technology makes colours more true-to-life and creates a more realistic image. In Paris and the Ile-de-France region, those with compatible television sets* will be able to watch the channels on TNT, broadcast from the Eiffel Tower by TDF (channels 81 and 82). Elsewhere in France, they can be viewed on the FRANSAT Ultra HD channel, one of the free FRANSAT satellite channels (channels 4441 and 4452).
In a global first, this year the American company Dolby Laboratories brings Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (via Dolby AC-4) to the table. Dolby AC-4 delivers the immersive audio experience of Dolby Atmos by precisely placing different sounds. ATEME, a French company specialized in video compression solutions, will also participate with its TITAN solution, the first live platform to integrate Dolby Vision technology.
French companies BBRIGHT and ZAYO will also be involved in the broadcast.
These four days of experimentation will be important for the manufacturers of consumer electronic devices, which will be able to test their newest equipment and prototypes. Viewers with UHD television sets will be able to experience the true atmosphere of the tournament at Porte d’Auteuil, with next–generation image and sound technology.
